Pikeville PFWB Church PO Box 910 919-736-3336 Evening Care Groups |
Imagine a place where hurting children who are experiencing the separation or divorce of their parents could come and learn to understand their feelings, express their emotions appropriately, feel better about themselves, develop coping skills, and be introduced to biblical concepts that will bring comfort. DC4K is that place!
For thirteen weeks, Pikeville Church offers DC4K concurrently with DivorceCare. The weekly themes from each group complement each other providing parents and children the opportunity to have meaningful discussion following the session. Each session is filled with activities that center around a weekly theme. The following is a list of topics discussed during the thirteen weeks:
Session 1 – What’s Happening To My Family? During this session, the children will find comfort from the anxiety they are experiencing in their life.
Session 2 – God Loves Children In All Kinds Of Families This session assists your children in realizing that everyone’s family situation is different.
Session 3 – Facing My Anger This session helps your children recognize angry feelings and how to deal with these feelings in a healthy and acceptable way.
Session 4 – Journey From Anger To Sadness This session’s goal is to familiarize your children with the sadness phase of grief in the divorce process and help them to process it in a healthy manner.
Session 5 – I Am Not Alone This session will help children realize they are not alone and there are people, including a heavenly Father, who care about them and love them.
Session 6 – God’s Plan For Me This session gives your children hope and comfort in knowing God always loves them and will meet all of their needs.
Session 7 – Developing New Relationships This week’s theme helps your children realize their relationships with Mom and Dad and others are different since the divorce. They will realize it’s okay to be loyal to each parent without feeling guilty.
Session 8 – Developing Money Smarts This session helps children understand various aspects of budgeting and spending which will help them understand budgeting issues in your family. Ideas about earning and spending money wisely are discussed.
Session 9 – It’s Not My Fault This session communicates to your children that divorce is an adult problem between two parents. Your children will learn that divorce is not their fault.
Session 10 – Telling My Parents How I Feel This session helps your children learn how to talk to you and their other parent about how they feel about different situations in an honest, yet respectful manner.
Session 11 – Forgiveness This session will help your children understand what forgiveness is and how to forgive others.
Session 12 – Loving My Parents This session is designed to educate children that their parents still love them and to help each child express love to both parents.
Session 13 – Moving On: Growing UP And Closer To God This session assists children in realizing life goes on after divorce and they can have healthy and happy futures. It helps the children understand they are individuals with their own talents, hobbies and interests.
Throughout the two-hour session, the children enjoy two short videos, engaging craft activities and discussion, snack time, read-aloud stories, and a time to work in their workbooks. We have a weekly scripture that relates to the theme of the session. The children are encouraged to memorize the scripture throughout the week, and if successful, they have opportunity to win prizes from a treasure box! It really is a fun-filled evening.
