Where is Jesus When the Dow Drops 700 Points?

Over the last few weeks financial markets have led many to have sleepless nights. The Pastor shared what Jesus would say to us in economic hard times. History has proven there is cause to be nervous when we rely on selfish individuals to make things right.

Our sovereign, loving God is still in control. Paul wrote to the church at Philippi from jail when his personal safety was at stake these words. Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4–7 NIV

God's promises everything will be okay, we matter to God. He reminds us of a place where there is no fear, pain, or anxious moments. However, the road between here and there may get rocky, but that is okay. He will always be with you offering peace, joy, and strength for the journey.

Your ultimate well-being rests on God. Sleep through the night, nothing that ultimately matters has changed. Rest your faith in a God whose love for his children will never falter.

Where Is Jesus When the Dow Drops 700 Points?
Matthew 6:19–24

We are experiencing in America economic instability, what would Jesus say to us at this time?

I. Market Downturn Reminds Us This World Is Not Our Home

Our world is broken, sin and greed has taken its toll.

Instability and hard times remind us we are not home yet.

II. Market Downturn Reminds Us to Reframe Our Thinking With Respect To Time

Jesus wants to look past this life and focus on a more distant horizon.

The Christian’s purpose is to invest the gifts God has given us in His kingdom.

"Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." 2 Corinthians 4:16–18 NIV

III. Market Downturns Remind Us That Putting Your Hope In Money Is A Bad Idea.

The Bible says much about money and most of it is not good.

Wealth has the power to make a person feel safe and independent of God.

IV. Market Downturns Remind Us To Have A More Global Perspective.

Jesus never encourages anyone to start the Christian life with any promise of an easy life.

"in this world, you will face many trials."

"The foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."

The poorest of us are rich when compared to most of the world.

V. Market Downturns Remind Us Of His Presence.

His love and ability is greater than any market decline.

Rest your faith in a God whose love for his children will never falter.
