What If It Is True?

The tomb was empty because Jesus was alive. The promise to us is that we too can live even if we die. What a stunning story, the dead Jesus came back to life again.

Some suggested that he almost died but not quite and his followers nursed him back to strength. Think about the evidence to the contrary.
Beat a man until his body is raw and bleeding.
Nail him to a cross for six hours.
Run a spear up under his ribs and through his organs.
Have his death certified by professional executioners whose careers and lives depended on the prisoner being dead.
Bury him for three days.
Then nurse him back to normal? I don't think so. He was dead

"They did not believe the women, because their words seemed to them like nonsense" Luke 24:11 NIV.

What if Easter really is true and you have not given your life to Christ. Perhaps you are convinced that Jesus is the Son of God and died on the cross. You believe but you have never repented and declared your belief to God. You have never committed to Jesus as your Savior Do it now! If Easter is true, it changes everything!

What If It Is True?
Luke 24:1-12

The story of Easter is that Jesus was dead from crucifixion on Friday, on Sunday morning his body came alive!

I. Easter Morning Was Characterized by Unbelief

Some say Jesus only fainted and his followers nursed him back to health. That makes no sense.

Somehow, spectacularly, supernaturally, Jesus came to life again.

That Easter morning, Peter checked the situation out for himself.

II. Easter Evening Was Characterized by Hopelessness

Late Easter afternoon two people walked west down the seven miles road from Jerusalem to Emmaus.

They were deeply grieving over Jesus' death

As they walked and talked, a fellow traveler came alongside them they didn't recognize.

When the two travelers recognized it was Jesus and that he was alive, they rushed back to Jerusalem in the dark to tell the news.

III. What Is Your Response if it is True?

If the resurrection is true then the things He taught must also be true.

If everything Jesus taught is true, what will you do about it? You can't be neutral.

C. S. Lewis said, "Christianity, if false, is of no importance, and if true, is of infinite importance. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important."

The truth of Easter changes everything!

Those who believe in God have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Those who don't believe in God have everything to lose and nothing to gain.

"Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. 1 Corinthians 15:55 – 58 NIV
