Think For A Change
Everyone I know wants to change something about themselves or something about their life. This is good, we need to be constantly changing and improving ourselves. If you think you're fine just the way you are, you've set your standards too low. When we stop growing we start dying, life needs to be a constant process of change.
Lasting change does not come easily. It's easy to implement a change, but the key is to make it work long-term. Change begins in your mind with the thoughts you think. James Allen said, "You are today where your thoughts have brought you; you will be tomorrow where your thoughts take you." That's how powerful thoughts are.
The pastor's sermon encouraged us to think on target, to experience change in your life. Think about what you think about. Filter your thoughts. Learn to put each thought in its proper place by asking the who, what, and where behind each question. Then follow each good thought with a supporting action.
If you develop these three habits you will become an action-oriented thinker that gets things done. That's what it means to think for a change.
THINK FOR A CHANGE
Ephesians 4:20 - 24
Three steps toward thinking the right kind of thoughts.
1. Think About What You Think About.
Many times our thoughts are reactions to our circumstances
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things. Philippians 4:8 NIV
Paul tells us to think on purpose, to pay attention to our thoughts.
2. Put Each Thought In Its Proper Place.
Every thought yields one of three responses.
- It leads to a negative action
- It leads to inaction,
- It leads to a positive action.
Learn to identify each thought by asking certain questions.
- Who is the influence behind this thought?
- What does this thought reveal about what I believe?
- Where will this type of thinking take me?
Identify good thoughts and bad thoughts, and put each one where it belongs.
Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. (2 Peter 3:1 NIV)
3. Follow Up Your Best Thoughts With Appropriate Action.
Engage in action-driven thinking.
"Wise people think before they act." (Proverbs 13:16 NLT)
This verse warns of two things.
- Do not act without thinking
- Do not think without acting.
Too often, we think about the right thing to do, but we never implement the changes
"Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts." Hebrews 4:7 NIV
If God speaks to you, take action.
