SAVED FROM DEATH BY HIS MOM
This Mother's Day message is not about how to be good to your mother, it's about how to be better to your children. You may never be able to change the dad in your child's life, but you can do some things to help your child become the person God created him or her to be.
Being a mother requires making some tough decisions that are at times heart wrenching. The foundation of decision making is God's promise that he will provide.
Because Moses' mother was willing to take a big risk at being a mom, she protected him from the Egyptian soldiers who sought to destroy him. She was able to protect him because she had a plan. Ask God for guidance and to give you a strategy for making parenting decisions.
Moses' mother instilled a sense of identity and destiny. Tell your children who they are and who they can become. Remind them that they belong to God, and he wants to use them in a great way.
SAVED FROM DEATH BY HIS MOM
Exodus 2:1-10
Moses mother provides three examples mothers can follow.
I. MOM, PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN
(v. 2) When she saw that he was a fine [i.e. healthy] child, she hid him for three months NIV
Moses' mother put herself at risk to keep Moses alive.
Our society isn't kid friendly.
Mothers should guard their children from bad influences.
Choose their friends when they are young, and teach them how to choose friends as they grow.
II. MOM, DEVELOP A GOOD PLAN
Then his sister asked Pharaoh's daughter, "Shall I go and get one of the Hebrew women to nurse the baby for you?" "Yes, go," she answered. And the girl went and got the baby's mother. (V.7-8 NIV)
Moses' mother had a plan to save her son.
If we come up with a plan for our children, God will help us as he helped Moses' mother.
Many parents don't have a plan for their children.
A plan helps make decisions in advance, especially when they're young.
III. MOM INSTILL A SENSE OF DESTINY
When the child grew older, she took him to Pharaoh's daughter and he became her son. She named him Moses, saying, "I drew him out of the water." V 10 NIV
Mothers need God to intervene in the life of their children.
Moses' mother had to return Moses to Pharoah's daughter after two or three years.
Legend has it that Moses' mother lived with Pharoah's household.
Someone instilled in Moses his Hebrew heritage.
Mothers today have the opportunity to inspire their children to greatness.
The text doesn't tell us the name of Moses' mother, just what she was able to accomplish.
People might not know your name, but your ministry to your children can change the world.
