Listening for the Spirit

Acts 8:39 says, "the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip."  That is a very suggestive statement.

  • Was this a literal, physical transportation?
  • Was Philip caught away as was Enoch in Gen 5:22-24
  • Was Philip caught away as was Elijah was 2 Kings 2:11

Acts 8:39 has no reference to the Second Coming.  In context it presents a picture of how a Christian should be living. It shows us what he should be doing while waiting and watching for the Lord’s return.

God is saying for us “Meet Me on the Mountain.” I personally believe we are rapidly approaching the Second Coming, and Rapture of the Church. God is preparing His church for that wonderful event whether He calls us by death or by rapture. How we should live and what we should be doing if we truly believe that Jesus will come at any moment and take us to be with Himself?

After the Eunuch is saved and baptized, Philip caught away by the Holy Spirit. Apparently, he disappears as the Spirit of the Lord takes him away to another location for him to tell someone else about Jesus. Philip lived before his rapture the way you and I should live.

LISTENING FOR THE SPIRIT
Acts 8:26-40

Series: Meet Me on the Mountain – part 2

Verse 39, "the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip.

What should we be doing if we truly believe that Jesus will come at any moment and take us to be with Himself?

I. WE SHOULD BE LISTENING FOR THE SPIRIT

the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying …” Acts 8:26 KJV

“the Spirit said unto Philip …” Acts 8:29 KJV

God by His Spirit speaks to His people, we need to be listening.

God detests the prayers of a person who ignores the law. Proverbs 28:9NLT.

We must hear the Spirit and heed the Spirit

To keep the chariots of opportunity from passing you by, be in tune with the Spirit’s leadership and be responsive to it.

"I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shall go: I will guide thee with mine eye."  Psalms 32:8 KJV

II. WE SHOULD BE LOVING SINNERS

Philip left a powerful revival in Samaria to share the gospel with one person of a different race in the desert.

The Spirit does the work in the heart, but He needs a tool.

God initiates - We participate.

III. WE SHOULD BE LEARNED IN THE SCRIPTURES

We have to know the gospel to share the gospel.

Although the eunuch had the scripture in his hand, he did not have a clue as to its message.

  • The Scripture is inspired of God – It is God’s Book.
  • The Scripture is instructive – It reveals Christ to us.
  • The Scripture is indispensable - It is has God’s authority

Philip preached Jesus as he rode in the chariot, he needed Jesus!

"For we do not preach ourselves but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus’ sake" II Cor. 4:5 KJV

After the Eunuch is saved and baptized Philip is caught away by the Holy Spirit to tell someone else about Jesus.
