Christian Maturity Takes A Lifetime
In Phil. 3 Paul shares his philosophy on life and puts it within our grasp. He teaches that a disciple is a lifelong learner. To continue growing in your field is necessary to stay sharp. The Christian will never know all that he needs to know. Spiritual growth is a never-ending process of learning and applying truth to our lives.
Paul was probably the most influential Christian in the history of the church. Yet, in spite of his influence and power he says in Phil. 3:12 NIV, Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.
We are to never stop learning, growing, becoming, and maturing. The teachers that God has placed in your path and the lessons you have learned along the way take shape into a calling on your life. God has been preparing you for something you can accomplish for his kingdom and his glory.
The greatest gift any Christian could give God is to
- Know your purpose - (Learn),
- Develop yourself for that purpose - (Obey)
- Accomplish God’s purpose for your life - (Go)
CHRISTIAN MATURITY TAKES A LIFETIME
Philippians 3:12-17
Phil. 3 teaches that to be a disciple is a never-ending process of learning and applying truth to our lives.
I. Every Student Has A Teacher.
Paul was an influential Christian but in Galatians 2 he submitted to church leaders.
Give a true spiritual leader permission to build into your life.
Many live in the past and dream away the future, the challenge is to face and live in the present.
God wants you to live every day with a purpose.
Being like Christ is to be a lifelong student, and every student needs a teacher.
II. Every Student Has A Subject.
I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his suffering, so that I may become like him. Philippians 3:11,
God never consults your past to determine your future.
Our most important subject is to know Christ and grow to be more like him.
When we learn that, other lessons are much easier to learn.
III. Every Student Has An Objective.
You go to school to get a degree and pursue a career.
Paul was called and wouldn't quit until he accomplished all that God put him here to accomplish.
When you have a purpose, your mission is defined.
The greatest gift any Christian could give God is to
- Know your purpose - (Learn),
- Develop your self for that purpose - (Obey)
- Accomplish God’s purpose for your life - (Go)
God has been preparing you for this hour - accomplish something for His kingdom and His glory.
