"Things To Do To Increase Jesus In You"
It is easy to get lost in external, material, and stressful things to the extent that you miss the beauty and simplicity of the Christmas message. That message is that "God so loved the word that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16) This sermon suggests three things to increase the presence of Jesus in your life and in the lives of others.
THINGS TO DO TO INCREASE JESUS IN YOU
Series: Mending Our Approach to Christmas
Luke 3:1- 6
Glory to God in the highest. And on earth peace, goodwill toward men. Luke 2:14
The primary purpose of John the Baptist ministry was to prepare the way for the coming of the Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth.
The life of a Christian disciple is summarized in the seven words John said about Jesus ... "He must increase, but I must decrease." John 3:30 NIV
The beauty and simplicity of the Christmas message is that "God so loved the word that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16)
1. MAKE A PATH
Luke 3:4 – 6 is a quote from Isaiah 40. "A voice of one calling the desert, 'Prepare the way for the Lord'..." Luke 3:4 NIV
Before a king toured his dominion, he sent a courier before him to tell people to prepare the roads.
The paths in some family relationships are cluttered with debris from the past, weeds, rocks, and obstacles, to the point that no one can get through.
This Christmas YOU prepare a path of reconciliation, mercy, peace, and forgiveness toward them.
2. SET SOMETHING STRAIGHT
"Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill made low. The crooked roads shall become straight, the rough ways smooth.” Luke 3:5 NIV
Within your circle are people for whom their road is crooked and rough.
- They are lonelier than they have ever been.
- They have the failure of a relationship.
- They are experiencing poor health
- They have experienced the death of a loved one
What can you do to help get something straight?
3. TURN ON THE LIGHT
And all mankind will see God's salvation. Luke 3:6 NIV
Christmas is about love, God's love for people.
For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through him might be saved. John 3:17 NIV
Salvation is Christmas’ real message - shine a light on this message.
Prepare a path for Him, a path of reconciliation, forgiveness, peace on earth, and goodwill toward others.
