Christians Learning From Shepherds
Christians Learning From Shepherds
Micah 5:2
The story of the angel’s visit and announcement to the shepherds is recorded in Luke 2:8-20
Thus saith the LORD; As the shepherd taketh out of the mouth of the lion two legs, or a piece of an ear; so shall the children of Israel be taken out that dwell in Samaria in the corner of a bed, and in Damascus [in] a couch. Amos 3:12
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. Psalms 23:1
Isaiah 40:11 pictures God as a shepherd feeding Israel.
Jeremiah 3:10 pictures God as a shepherd protecting Israel
Ezekiel 34:12 pictures God as a shepherd seeking out Israel.
Christians can learn from the shepherds…
I. TO WORK IN THE SHEEP’S BEST INTEREST
"Keeping watch over their flocks by night” Luke 2:8 KJV
The shepherd faithfully guarded his sheep even when they were in their pen at night.
I Samuel 30 presents and interesting story that teaches faithfulness. David said not are all equally strong yet all can be equally faithful.
II. TO KNOW GOD’S VOICE AND FOLLOW
"Let us go....see" Luke 2:15.
Can you imagine that exciting, breath taking night? They had heard from God.
"When I could not come to where He was, He came to me." Squire Parsons
III. TO TRUST GOD’S SOVEREIGN FAVOR
“Which the Lord hath made known unto us.” Luke 2:15
Why did God choose them and not another group of people?
God is in charge and ultimately acts according to His character, knowledge, and purpose.
IV. TO NOT WASTE TIME
And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. Luke2:16
“It is not enough to be on the right track, you have to be moving or you’ll get run over.” Unknown
The hour is late, Jesus is coming, the time is now.
V. TO MAKE KNOWN GOD’S GOOD NEWS
And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child. Luke 2:17 KJV
But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. Acts 1:8
Every Christian is to TELL IT!
VI. TO GLORIFY AND PRAISE GOD
And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. Luke 2:20
The shepherds had met God. They had seen God. They rejoiced in God.
