Peace - God's Recurring Theme
PEACE – GOD’S RECURRING THEME
Isaiah 11:1 - 5
Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ Romans 5:1 NIV.
Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. John 14:8-9 NIV
Isaiah 11 reveals much about what Jesus came to do for us and the nature and character of God.
I. Spiritual Strength Comes from God
The Spirit of the Lord will rest upon him—the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and power, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord—and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. Isaiah 11:2-3 NIV
a. Wisdom and Understanding.
Many want and need to do the right thing but have no idea what 'the right thing' is.
If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him James 1:5 NIV
b. Counsel and Power.
Isaiah combined counsel with power to teach us that Jesus tells us what to do and gives the ability to do it.
The same Spirit of counsel and power that rested on Jesus is available to you.
c. Knowledge and Fear of the Lord.
Knowledge of God leads to appropriate fear, or reverence.
Through Jesus we learn God is not angry and vindictive. He is loving, kind, full of mercy, and powerful.
“The only way to keep a broken vessel full is to keep it always under the tap.” Dwight L. Moody
II. Righteous Justice Comes from God
He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears; but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked. Isaiah 11:3-4 NIV
Never limit the role of Jesus to only that of teacher or miracle worker, ultimately he is our Judge.
III. Ultimate Peace Comes From God
Isaiah 11:6-7 The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling together; and a little child will lead them. The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men. Luke 2:14 KJV
Many know a lot about Jesus but don't know Him personally.
