THE HOLY SPIRIT HAS COME

John 14:16-18

Fifty days after Easter is of the Day of Pentecost.

Paul pictures the church as a body. The Spirit is the breath of God in the body.

I. THE SPIRIT IS SEEN IN CREATION

A. Creation of Earth

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Genesis 1:1-2 KJV

B. Creation of Man

The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Gen 2:7 NIV

The day Adam sinned he experienced spiritual death.

II. PRAYER FOR THE SPIRIT

In the Old Testament the Spirit moved on certain people at specific times and places for specific purposes.

Moses replied, 'Are you jealous for my sake? I wish that all the Lord’s people were prophets and that the LORD would put his Spirit on them! Num 11:29 NIV

III. THE PROMISE OF THE SPIRIT

A. The Prophets Promise

Old Testament prophet Joel said a time would come when the Spirit would move upon all flesh.

And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh ; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: 29 And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit. Joel 2:28-29 KJV

God has an anointing for you.

B. The Messiah's Promise

Jesus came to reverse the curse and to begin a restoration process.

And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever- 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. John 14:16-17 NIV

IV. THE PROVISION OF THE SPIRIT

A. Historical Provision in the Church

1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place… 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them. Acts 2:1-4 NIV

B. Contemporary Provision for Every Believer

Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied (v. Acts 19:6 NIV

There is an anointing available for every person born again, living for Jesus, and hungry for more of God.
