Ignite: Be All That You Can Be (Series 4)
DEVELOPING A HEART AFTER GOD
Acts 13:21 - 23

I. THE PREACHING

But now your kingdom shall not continue. The LORD has sought for Himself a man after His own heart, and the LORD has commanded him to be commander over His people, because you have not kept what the LORD commanded you.” 1 Samuel 13:14 KJV

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not.  And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." 1 John 2:1

David's example shows that even if we fail we don't have to stay down.

II THE ANOINTING

His own father hadn't invited him to the event, but when David came walking up the Lord said, "This is what I've been looking for.”

Anointing almost always precede appointing. God’s call and anointing is His gift to you, your preparation to serve is your gift to God.

III. THE INDICATORS

What was different about David that God selects him to be Israel ’s King?

1. Our Relationship with God Is To Be Our Life Priority.

David expressed his overwhelming love and respect for God and His Word.

Psalms 119:15-16 I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.

Psalms 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. He often sought God in prayer for strength, & wisdom.

2. We Are To Trust In the Lord In Trials.

Throughout his life David endured many amazing challenges with great confidence.

3. We Are To Have a Passion to Obey God.

David chose obedience to God over becoming the king even though he had been chosen and anointed for the task.

4. We Are To Demonstrate a Spirit of Humility.

David had many reasons to be proud. He was handsome, a skilled musician, the Lord’s anointed ruler, a triumphant warrior, and a national hero, yet David felt unworthy.

5. We Are To Demonstrate the Spirit of a Servant.

David continued to obey his father and his authority. Imagine being anointed to be the king and still tending sheep.

CONCLUSION: God chose David out of a relationship with him. He knew David wasn’t perfect but his heart was in the right place.

Many feel worthless but God is saying don't quit. He has anointed you, remain faithful and in due time He will appoint you.
